Oven cleaning in Southfields

A single oven in Southfields is £77, a double £110 and a 90cm range £114. The racks, trays and side runners come out and go into a heated dip tank in the van, where they soak while the cavity, the door glass and the seals are cleaned by hand in your kitchen. An oven booked on its own clears the £67 minimum, so there is nothing to add. Hobs, extractor hoods and microwaves get quoted on the day. We look first. A three year old induction hob and a gas hob carrying fifteen years of spilt milk are not remotely the same job, and pretending otherwise on the phone helps nobody.

The van is half the equipment

The dip tank sits in the back and runs off its own power, which means the van has to be close enough to carry a set of hot racks back to. The bays here are a patchwork. Wandsworth runs S1, S2, S3, S5, Q1 and Q2 around these streets, and a permit for one of them does not cover the street on the other side of the junction. We buy a visitor session on the app when that happens. If you have a spare permit or a driveway on one of the Triangle roads, mention it when you book, because it saves a quarter of an hour at the start.

What Southfields kitchens are like

Most of the Grid has its kitchen in a back extension with a 60cm single oven under a hob, and that is the job we do more than any other. The Southfields Triangle, the block between Merton Road and Replingham Road, holds the larger family houses, and it throws up far more of the 90cm range cookers with two cavities and a griddle plate in the middle. Those take closer to three hours. The mansion flats near the station tend to have galley kitchens with the oven at floor level under a worktop, so we work on our knees and put a mat down first.

How long it takes, and what we need from you

Two hours on a single oven that has not been touched in a year. A double runs to three. If the last clean was only a few months ago it is quicker, and we charge the same, since the price is per appliance rather than per hour. That cuts both ways and most people prefer knowing the number in advance.

The oven has to be cold. If you are cooking that morning, tell us and we will come after lunch instead. We need a tap, a bit of worktop to lay tools on and somewhere to stand the door if it comes off. Cats and small children are better shut in another room for the first half hour while the caustic is on, though the kitchen is safe again as soon as the rinse is done.

What we leave alone

Some doors stay on. We do not take apart a model with a hinge lock we do not recognise, because there are a few makes where getting it wrong cracks the inner pane, and staining between the glass on those has to stay where it is. Self-cleaning liners in older ovens go dull if they are scrubbed, so they get a wipe and nothing more. A cracked element or a fan that has started to whine is an engineer’s job, and we will point at it rather than leave it for you to find.

Ovens booked with something else

Roughly a third go in with something else. Usually an end of tenancy clean, where the first oven is already inside the fixed price and a second one is £77 on top. The rest are people who have decided today is the day, generally before family arrive for Christmas or Eid, or after a winter of roasting trays. Customers on the weekly service tend to book an oven once a year instead of asking their cleaner to squeeze it into a three hour visit, which is not enough time to do it properly.

Do you need to park right outside?
