Wimbledon Park is one stop south of us on the District line, in SW19, and it is the part of our patch that changes character for a fortnight every summer. For those two weeks the pavements along the walking route to the All England Club fill with people carrying folding chairs, and the parking rules change with them. Then it goes quiet again.
Parking while the Championships are on
The ordinary zones are merged into a single tennis event zone for the tournament, with controls in force 8:30am to 8:30pm every day of it, weekends included. That kills the usual trick of turning up at six in the evening and parking free. We plan those jobs in advance, buy a session on the app, or take an early morning slot before the first trains empty out. A driveway or a spare permit makes our day easier. It changes nothing about your price.
The park does half the damage
Work here splits between the houses on the roads around the park and the flats nearer the station. Either way the park sets the winter workload. Wet grass, the path round the lake and a dog gets you a hallway carpet that wants extraction rather than another go with the hoover. A bedroom carpet is £36 and a living room £43, with stairs at £41 a flight, and most rooms are walkable again about two hours after we pack up.
What we get called for
Move-out cleans and carpets, mostly. There is a steady run of weekly houses in between. A two bedroom end of tenancy clean is £243 and a three bedroom £339, fixed on the phone before we start, with one oven inside the price. Short lets around the tournament bring a burst of turnaround work in the last week of June, and those are usually one off team cleans at £186 for two cleaners over three hours rather than hourly visits.
The flats by the station
Closer to the station the work is flats rather than houses, and a good share of it is weekly or fortnightly housework at £22 per cleaner per hour. Two or three hours a visit. Several of those are held on a key, because the household leaves before eight. Ovens in the flats are almost all 60cm singles at £77, cleaned with the racks soaking in the van while the cavity is done by hand at the worktop.
Getting to you
Five minutes in the van, or one stop on the District line if it is already out with somebody else. We do not charge travel into SW19. Half the time we are here anyway, since East Putney sits one stop the other way and the Southfields streets in between take most of the week. How much is a carpet clean in Wimbledon Park?
£36 a bedroom, £43 a living room, £61 for a through lounge and £41 for a flight of stairs. One room on its own meets the £67 minimum for one off work, so it is usually worth doing two at once.
Can you do an end of tenancy clean in SW19 the same week?
Most weeks of the year, yes, with two or three days notice. Late June and July are the exception, because tenancy end dates and the short let turnarounds around the Championships fill the diary a fortnight ahead.
